I recently ran into a problem using Outlook which came
with my computer. In the past when I have had trouble
sending/receving email it was typically because the
Messenger icon was not running in my System Tray.

Today, I went to use Outlook and verified that the
Messenger icon was in the System Tray. However, it had a
red circle with an 'X'. This indicates to me it is not
communicating or some other problem.

I right click and it shows I need to 'sign-in'. I have
never had to sign-in at anytime in the past to use Outlook
Express as my e-mail client.

When I tried to use Outlook to send an email I got the
following Error (actual email address removed):

What the heck has MS done to F&^%#! me up like this???

(after this I'm turning that system update crap off!)

System Information:
HP Pavilion 3.0GHz Pentium4

WindowsXP for Home
Outlook 2002 (10.4219.4219) SP-2
Messenger 4.6 (4.6.0077)

Greetings,

Actually the error you're seeing is related to whatever SMTP server you're sending mail out
of, it's not connected to Messenger or Outlook Express in anyway.

Messenger really has no effect on this type of thing, in fact, if you want to stop Messenger
from loading with Outlook Express, simply close Outlook Express, then download and run this
