I unintalled windows messenger but found that my media center now hangs until
it times out to return an error that the messenger isn't found. Although
messenger is still on the media center panel, there are no setting options
such as to ignore. I've downloaded messsanger 5.1 from Microsoft to try and
reinstall. The MSI hangs immediately after getting to the intial
installation messages. I installed IE7 and it says messenger installed but
it won't run from the program menu. I've searched the web and Microsoft for
answers to no avail. Anybody have any ideas how to either reinstall
successfully or stop media center from wainting on a program that isn't
there?

In Media Center...

Settings, Messenger and Caller ID and uncheck "Allow instant messages within
Media Center"

In the future, you probably shouldn't remove Windows Messenger, as it is a
dependency for other applications on a Windows Computer (i.e. Media Center,
Remote Assistance, App Sharing, Whiteboarding, etc etc). It would be better
to disable it, so that it is still present on your computer.
