hey there, loving the forum, its given me some great tips and advice :o)

i'm wondering, why sometimes my msn window uses up my memory (page file usage) veeeerrry slowly. if i am online for about 2 hours or so, i will get a message bubble popping up saying 'Longhorn is increasing the pagefile as you are running out of virtual memory. Click here for more information'
so i click there and it tells me basically that messenger is chomping up my memory. hmmm strange i hear you ask.

im using longhorn M5 build (it did it on my xp pro laptop as well...) and i downgraded from Longhorn messenger, to MSN7, but now i use 6.2 and it still does it.

vveeeeerrry strange, wondering if anyone could help.
would be much appreciated.

hope ur all well,

zack :o)

I'd love to help, but I don't have Longhorn so I haven't the foggiest
regarding the problem you're seeing (not to mention the fact that Longhorn
is still miles away from even being a beta, so I'm not going to touch it
with a ten foot pole). Although yes, I do agree that it is strange. During
these online hours of yours, are you sending files or using audio/webcam
sessions?

I'm in the same position as Michael concerning Longhorn (on both accounts).
However, the advice I will give you would theoretically apply to any
operating system you have. Go into the System Properties, where you can
specify the size of your page file. (In Windows 2000 it's Right click on My
Computer and select Properties (Or go into "System" in Control Panel), click
on the Advanced Tab, Then click on the button for Performance Options. In
there, see what your paging file is set to, and change that to a higher
value.

Traditionally it's 1.5 X your total RAM, but personally, I have mine set at
a minimum of 1,048 to 2,048MB. Make sure you set the minimum and the
maximum to that same size. This supposedly cuts down on fragmentation
problems, and also gives it all the room it needs, without the OS having to
increase it when necessary.

Hope this helps you, or if you need to switch down to a release OS, then you
know how to do it for that.
