I have MSN messenger 6 installed, but windows messenger
keeps insisting on loading up and logging in. I have
uninstalled via the add-remove componants, and unchecked
all checkboxes I can see, but it still loads up and stops
MSN messenger logging in. Is there any way to stop
windows messenger from loading up or automatically
logging in??

Rgrds

Chris

PS the account this keeps doing it in is not the primary,
or first installed account, but it still has admin
privilidges.

Greetings Chris,

Firstly, open up the main Messenger window, click the Tools menu, then Options, then
Preferences, uncheck 'Run this program when Windows starts' (if you haven't already done so)
and click OK.

Then, do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new "instant messaging
scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and cause this
behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the
System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options,
then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

Outlook and Outlook Express can also cause Windows Messenger to open, if you use either
client, to prevent this from happening to the following -- for Outlook (XP/2002), just open
Outlook, click the Tools menu, then Options, then the Other tab, and uncheck 'Enable Instant
Messaging in Microsoft Outlook'. For Outlook Express, close Outlook Express, and run this
