Messenger 7 and Hotmail Notification

I'm currently using MSN messenger 7 (build 7.0.0777) on WinXP and have
found that for the last two versions, the mail notification w/ Hotmail
has been terrible.

It used to be extremely efficient and fast when it notified me of new
mail. Now, it seems buggy at best. For example, my inbox at Hotmail
shows 3 new messages, yet MSN Messenger tells me that there are no new
messages.

While typing this email, a fourth message just arrived but MSN Messenger
hasn't even informed me of the new incoming message.

Generally, after a few minutes, it will "catch up" and tell me that
there are x amount of new messages, but it's usually after I've already
checked it.

What happened to these new versions? Is there something I can change
within the settings to make it function like it used to? (I haven't
changed software/hardware and there aren't any unusual hardware
configurations on this system).

Thanks in advance!

Greetings,

This functionality is handled server-side (the server simply tells Messenger that you have X
number of messages or that you're receiving a new one). As such, there's no magical setting
or tweaks here, all the problems that you're seeing (and I can echo this even on my own
account) are delays on the Messenger/Hotmail servers themselves.

i agree totally
i found there is a huge delay with the hotmail notification system
This is just about the only reason i use hotmail - the speed efficiency and
integratio of notifications into msn messenger.
Why only recently on MSN 7?
will it ever improove again?

Same problem for Messenger 6.2 running on XP2.. I am getting mail
notifications about 10 minutes later they really came in...
