I upgraded to Messenger 5.0 and now the thing opens up
in "Outlook". ANyone know how to get rid of this?

Greetings Steve,

To stop Messenger loading with "Outlook", for Outlook XP/2002, just open Outlook, click the
Tools menu, then Options, then the Other tab, and uncheck 'Enable Instant Messaging in
Microsoft Outlook'. For Outlook 2003, click the Tools menu, then Options, then the Other tab,
uncheck 'Display Messenger Status in the From field' and click OK. For Outlook Express,
close Outlook Express, and run this .reg file:

Thanks Jonathan,
I unchecked the "Enable..." box. Windows messenger open
OK. But, when choosing "My Email Inbox" Messenger ask to
choose a profile name of which "Outlook" is the only
option. I might be getting closer, but not quite their.
I'm beginning to wonder if I should have used this time
learning to use Outlook or Outlook Express.
I appreciate your feedback,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Yes, when you click the "My Email Inbox", it will open your default mail handler (which you
have set to Outlook). You can just accept the default profile. I'm not quite sure what you
want, but you can change which program will handle your mail in Windows (which also will
reflect in Windows Messenger) by opening an Internet Explorer window, click the Tools menu,
then Internet Options, then Programs tab and changing the program under the E-mail heading.

Thanks again,
Opening the Internet Explorer window, then Tools, then
Internet Options, then Programs tab and changing the
program under the E-mail heading to Hotmail did the
trick. When Messenger was opening, it would ask if you
wanted "Outlook". Their were no other choices. I didnt
know where to change this or what to enter. Maybe I could
have typeh "Hotmail" into that box. Anyway, I think I'm
finally there.
Thanks again,
Steve

Jonathan,
I spoke to soon. Now, I start MSN-Messenger first. It's
set to automatically sign in to email_acct_A@hotmail. It
does. Then I start "Windows Messenger" and manually log
into email_acct_B@hotmail. A little window pops up
from "MSN Messenger" telling me that I have already been
signed in at another computer, a bit later "MSN
Messenger" tells me I have been signed out. Windows
Messenger then successfully opens up the home page for
email_acct_A@hotmail, even though I typed in
email_acct_B@hotmail and password_B.

If you think I should give up just say so!
Thanks
Steve
