I have upgraded, but my 4.7 version is still installed, so now I have 2
icons in my task bar tray thingy. 6 signs in automatically when I go on the
net, and 4.7 says 'you are currently signed in elsewhere...etc'.

I have been to CTRL panel, Removed Messenger from ADD-Remove progs. but it
still stays there after a restart. It is starting to really p*ss me off.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks Jonathon, but you did'nt quite tell me how to fully uninstall Windows
Messenger. I do not use, as I am sure the majority of people don't,
Whiteboard, or Remote Assistance, or App sharing due to security risks etc.
So I would like to fully remove it from my system.
Regards
Brendon

Greetings Brendon,

Windows Messenger 4.x and MSN Messenger 6.0 are separate products, hence why
MSN Messenger 6
didn't overwrite Windows Messenger. However, to start MSN Messenger 6,
click Start, then All
Programs, and choose MSN Messenger 6.

You can fully remove Windows Messenger 4.x, but if you do, you will be
preventing Remote
Assistance, Whiteboard, Application Sharing and any other applications that
utilize Messenger
from working (or loading without problems). You can just disable Windows
Messenger 4.x, by
opening it up, click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and unchecking 'Run
this program when
Windows starts'. As well, do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed?
Norton added a new
"instant messaging scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can
conflict with
Messenger and cause this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus
(Right-click on the
Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock),
choose 'Open
Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN
Instant Messenger
and click OK.

Hi Brendon,

Sure -- To fully remove Windows Messenger, close down Messenger if it's running (right click
the messenger icon in the notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the
start button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,
