I downloaded some file renaming programs to see how they worked. After doing this I was then trying to change folder icons and view picture files. Now the icons do not show as a picture and the picture files you have to click on and then view. Before when I opened the icon files and clicked on the individual folders the icons in that file would be shown in the form of a picture. Now I have to click on each one to display the pictures. The file folders are showing as ICO files. I have tried the Restore Option but that doesn't change or correct the problem. I didn't go back to far as I have some recently installed updates that were quite big. I have deleted all of the downloads I have installed in the last couple of days but that hasn't fix the problem either.

Thanks for the tip Wesley. I'm sorry to report that didn't correct the problem. If I click on Thumbnails then the actual pictures are displayed. I really don't like this option as it takes up to much space. Currently my pictures are displayed from Dell Image Studio and that is what opens each image. It is my opinion, which isn't much, that maybe whatever program was used to show these images when just clicking on the file was changed or disabled sometime while I was messing around. Is one of the programs that comes with Internet Exployer orginally used to show picture images? I also downloaded some new icons and also had to click on Thumbnails to view them. Then they were so small I couldn't tell what they are. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know they work before I started adding programs and experimenting. So I must have changed something. Thanks again.

Frank;
Maybe I misunderstood.
If you are referring to showing a preview in the left-hand pane, you need to
have Show Common Tasks enabled. This way you can have your View set to
whatever you want.
--------------------
To display links to common tasks in folders

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Folder Options |
General tab | Under Tasks | click Show common tasks in folders |
Apply | OK

[[The hyperlinks to common tasks in the left pane of your folder windows
provide quick access to file and folder management activities and other
places on your computer, such as My Computer, Shared Documents, and My
Network Places. Windows displays these links by default, so they may already
be displayed in your folders. If they are not, you can use Folder Options to
enable this feature.]]

Sorry to say but that was already set up the way you mentioned. When I right click on one of the images, in the shortcut menu there is an option of Open With. As stated I am currently using Dell Image Expert. If I chose one of the other image programs listed would that show the pictures immediately when I open the file folder containing the images? As stated before, I know I did something to cause this to happen. Still don't know how to correct it. If you could tell me what Image Program was used when Windows XP was installed first maybe I can go to that program to get it back where it was in the beginning.

Frank;
Don't right click. Left click the image, just once, and it will show
a small preview in the left-hand pane.

XP uses Picture and Fax Viewer. If you right click and select: Preview,
the image will open in Picture and Fax Viewer.
