I was not having any problems using Windows mail until two days ago. Now,
when I "send" a message it stays in my outbox as an unread message. It does
not move to the sent folder. I have still been receiving mail - and I did
not change any settings (unless I did so inadvertently). I checked my setup
and did not notice any change which would cause this result. What could have
caused this problem?

To solve your immediate problem, see
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

The cause of the problem is interference from your antivirus program.
Read http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
If you have McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall it. Reboot and try
Windows Mail again. Once you get your email working properly,
download and install a less troublesome antivirus program such as the
free Avast. Whichever antivirus program you keep, be sure to
disable its email scanning option.

Then won't that open me up to problems with incoming mail? I have McAfee
and I assume it must have downloaded updates which caused it to do this now -
as the first month I had the new computer with Vista it was fine. I am
concerned about deleting or disabling security without knowing the possible
effect it could have on other usage. Can't I just change something w/the
mail? It should function with whatever antivirus program people have. The
other link you gave me was no help as it just brought me to a mainpage for
outlook and I had no idea where to go for there.

Did you bother to read the references quoted in
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 , in particular
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...88256c7500723cf0?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam

where Symantec (Norton AV), the originator of email scanning, admits that
email scanning is unnecessary and redundant?

Why do you insist on using an antivirus program that isn't 100% Vista
compatible when you could easily substitute a different antivirus that is
both free and Vista compatible? It's your call. But if you continue to use
McAfee, I can guarantee that it will continue to corrupt your Windows Mail.

Then you didn't look very closely.
