I have several users with Outlook 2002 SP2 who do not
receive messages until they click on the inbox. If Outlook
is the active window they're fine but when Outlook is
operating in the background they do not receive new
messages until they click on Outlook and go to the inbox.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is usually caused by a router or switch with VLANs between the client
and server, and UDP packets not being sent through. Is that true in your
case?

Nope no routers or VLANs. It's a flat network. Interesting
though the IP one of the clients is 80.1.10.14 with a
netmask of 255.0.0.0 and the IP of the exchange server is
80.0.0.25 with a netmask of 80.0.0.25.

Are there two NICs on the server? That is an extremely funky looking address

Hi,
I have the same problem with UDP packets not reaching a particular client.
We don't have a router or any VLAN's either. I've gone through the KB
articles I can find and they point to trying to find what the problem is,
but not what to do about it once you know. I know from Network Monitor on
the Ex2k server that UDP packets aren't getting to the client (ICMP
Destination unreachable - yet if I ping from the command prompt it's fine!)
The client has no other network issues.

I have got round this in the past by re-installing the OS, but there has to
be a simpler way...?
