messages not being marked as read

I have two users running windows XP professional and
Outlook 2002 (fully patched) connecting to an Exchange
2000 server. After the users read the messages, they still
appear bold (unread) in the inbox. This doesn't happen
with every messages, but enough that the users were
concerned with their sanity.
 
You might want to check the Reading Pane settings;
Goto Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button Reading Pane... (or was this
called Preview Pane... in previous versions? :-S can't remember :-S)
