Messages from Windows Defender too ephemeral :o(

1. Windows Defender ran overnight but in the morning, there was no evidence
that it had run. The old MSantiSpyware used to leave a window open with the
results. I liked that: it showed it had run and showed results without having
to ask.

2. This evening, I got a very transient message window (bottom RHS) saying
that Defender had just done ... something. I was in the middle of typing
something so I didn't read it immediately (thinking it would stay a while).
However, when I looked (only a few seconds later), it had gone. That's a bit
disconcerting! I checked in the History but that doesn't contain such
"advice" messages.

What I'm asking for is either or both of: (a) longer lasting messages (b)
that ALL messages (including advice/info) should be recorded somewhere
accessible.

I'd like (b) the most; (a) would be useful too. Any chance of getting that ?

If you do start, run, eventvwr.msc, **click OK**, then click on

**System**, then View, then Filter, and scroll down the "event source"

control to reach Windefend, that will give you a view of just Windows

Defender-related events.

A variety of Windows Defender actions are logged in the System event log,
with source "WinDefend"--which you can filter on.

Thanks - I need to do some reading in my logs at home--got a drive that is
going, and on a server at work--lots of stuff to winnow through--looks
useful.

Thanks both Dave & Bill. Very helpful; I didn't know where/how to look
before so that was really useful.

Where should I go to make suggestions for improvements to WinDefend ?
eg I think it would be good for those messages to be accessible directly
inside WinDefender so people don't have to find an expert to tell them where
to see them.

Nobody but a masochist or a computer geek could love the format of those
system event logs or the built-in windows viewer, it's a pain to try to
look at this or decipher the content. An average user might be able to get
to the location, but once they see the format they won't want to be back if
they can avoid it. IMHO it's one of the worst design decisions in WD, well
third worst anyway. Ms wants "average users" (from WindowsLiveOneCare) to
be able to use this almost hidden information?

OK, rant off... You're posting to the right place to get it to Team WD by
posting your impressions here. A new topic would be best to get the Ms
lurkers focused attention.
