Messages are lost after opening

I am using Microsoft Mail and if I open something in the inbox it will be
lost if I close mail or go somewhere such as sent items. It is not moved to
the deleted items it is just gone. I have no idea how to recover the
messages. Has anybody else had this problem? I wantto go to Outlook which I
have always had before but am scared to upgrade with this problem.

Click in the Inbox, then View,then Current View, then Show All Messages.
Then you should see the messages you have read but not moved to another
folder.
