Messages Appear Read

Hello. I hope someone can lead me in the right direction here.

I have a user on OL 2003 (Ex 2000 Back end) that is having a problem with
messages appearing to be read, when they have never been opened.


The user does not have Auto Preview or Preview pane enabled, nor do they
have any rules. The messages appear in the Inbox, and after a few minutes
of sitting there, they appear as read.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Tools>Options>Other>Reading Pane. Uncheck "Mark items as read when viewed
in the Reading Pane"

This is still a problem for me.

I have spent about 3 hours on the users machine and mailbox. I deleted all
rules in the users mailbox on server side and client side. I also verified
that no one else is getting into his account through any other means. A new
message arrives and after 5 or 6 minutes, it shows as read.

Any other suggestions. I really appreciate the help.
