I use message rules to filter out the spam I recieve in my mail, it sends
all the junk to my deleted folder which I then check for any mistakes it or
I may have made.
I have recently reached a point were I am happy with it's performance and
decided to check the box *delete from server* but for some reason unknown to
me it will not apply this request, "is there a solution?
Maybe there is a step I'm missing or something else to be checked with it.

TIA to all who reply

Just make sure that your rules end with "Stop Processing More Rules."
Otherwise it will keep going to the next rule. Makes no sense to me, but
that's how it works!

Thanks Box

What I do is go into mail rules and check "Where The Subject Line Contains."
I then put in the words Viagra etc
But if I check "Stop Processing More Rules."
Then I don't get the option to "Delete From Server." with it.
It looks like Delete F,S, stands alone and *should* do what it is stating,
but doesn't.
Also in the rules description box it says
"Apply this rule after the message *arrives* where the subject line
contains." Even if I check Delete F,S, which is a contradiction in itself.

So how do people get posts they don't want, deleted at the server end within
message rules?

If someone has the answer I'd be grateful as I'm sure so would others
reading this post .

Ah yes, you're right. "Delete from server" doesn't have "Stop processing
more rules." Sorry about that.

Only thing I can guess is that somehow the key words you specify don't match
exactly. I've never tried so I'm not sure if the case has to match. Also it
sounds as if you have a number of key words. Do you have the logic correct?
You will have to OR each key word.

Anyway, post back and maybe someone can figure it out.

Using just OE, the comparison between message and rule does not happen at
the server side. There has to be a download to examine the message locally
where it is then deleted if that what the rule is set for.

Mailwasher (and similar programs) step in between you and the server and
will screen headers, process according to your rules and finally allow the
download of approved emails only. A bit of extra work as the mail has to be
"handled" twice but some folks prefer this method.

Thanks Sharon for clearing that up. You see when I'm receiving mail using
Outlook Express 6 it states that it is "downloading a list of messages"
which I thought where the Headers that then could be intercepted and have my
rule to delete from server applied. and after that it *then* downloaded to
my PC.
Why do they give you the option to "Delete From Server."
If apparently it's useless?

Example of how to use this setting: You check your personal email account
while at work but want to download the messages to your own home computer
later on. You would leave the "Delete from server" box unchecked in your
config at work. But check the box on your setup at home so that the server
space allotted for your email box (online) doesn't get overloaded and start
bouncing mail.

It's not useless. I have it as my last rule, one of about 15 mail rules I've
set up, and it deletes messages that aren't specifically addressed to me. So
it works, no mistake about that.

As I said before, post your rule(s), substance and order. Without specifics
it's very difficult to diagnose your problem.
