I set message rules in Vista Mail to forward messages from specific senders
to various folders. Twice all my rules have just disappeared, with no
apparent reason, and have had to
be recreated from scratch.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a way to create a backup
of the message rules?

might want to provide a list of the programs you normally run on your computer.
one of them might be interfering/causing this problem.
after 2 years of running vista can say have NEVER had a rule disappear. have 20 in place.

post the list back here for everyone to see and comment on.

Rules are stored in the Registry. Do you run a reg cleaner that might be
affecting this?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Rules

I'm having almost the same problem as Alec: Some of my rules won't stay
saved. (I know there are some serious theological issues with that, but those
will have to wait for another time!)

I have tried three times to save three different rules and each time after I
apply the rule it disappears. Three other rules remain on the list.

I'm running Home Premium on a new Toshiba Satellite L45; MS Office Home &
Student 2007; Norton AV 2008 w/antispyware; I have a Linksys WRT45G router
and a Lexmark X4580 printer with the factory software. I have an old version
of Adobe Photoshop LE; LabOra worship planning software from Duplo-Data and
Wordsearch Bible software from NavPress.

I've tried to figure out how to disable the Norton but evidently I'm not
smart enough to understand their instructions. Hmmmph!

Supposedly I have 90 days of free online help from MS but the sign-in screen
insists that my ID number isn't valid or it's not in the correct format.

Can anyone out there help this poor Luddite?

For email or for newsgroups? I've had no trouble saving over 400 rules
for newsgroups.

Sometimes what looks like one character is actually another that looks
similar. You might try to register again.

Keep reading and some will try.

The problem is with e-mail rules;

I've tried repeatedly to register - even with my glasses on!

Uninstall all the Norton products and try saving your rules once more.
Something is blocking writes to the registry, and I'm betting it is
the anti-spyware module.

I don't think there's a way to do it.
