Is there a way to force read receipts within an
organization, even if the receipient has selected not to
send read receipts in Tools; Options? I'm not greatly
concerned with internet email, but it is important that
our managers receive read receipts from their staff.
Any help us greatly appreciated!!

There is no way to force READ RECEIPTS and I'm not
sure that it would be a good idea to anyway, like spam or
such. Something like this is best implemented through
policy.

You can send a DELIVERY RECEIPT that at least proves
that the message was delivered safely to the recipient.

No and why would you want to? I always disable sending read recipts.
First, no one has any business knowing whether or not I've read a message.
Second, a read receipt in no way guarantees that the recipient UNDERSTANDS
the message and that, in my opinion, is the real goal.

It IS, indeed, important that managers read and understand messages from
their staff - but read receipts aren't going to accomplish that. I think
read receipts have even less value than "return receipt requested" cards
with the post office - because at least there you can confirm the mail went
to the specific address (even if you can't be certain the individual even
opened the envelope to read the contents) whereas with email, you can't even
be that certain.

For one thing, I know some managers who have their administrative assistants
open and sort the mail for them - a "read receipt" doesn't mean the manager
has even seen the thing or will for days.

This is a MANAGEMENT problem, not a computer problem. If your boss is
refusing to admit to receiving emails you sent him because it would make him
look bad (and thus, makes you look bad for not having sent it), then you
need to resolve the personal issue between you.
