Message/Question for JAX?

Jax,

Your repair install link worked great - repaired installation of XP went
well.

Now, though; when I right click on Start button and hit explore or open
My Computer, it takes a long time (5 minutes) for the tree to expand to
show all of my Devices, Drives, etc.

Ideas.

Hi Steve,
I assume, you have shut-down and re-started the machine. Try a disk cleanup
and defragment the drive.

That seems an incredibly long time but, it takes a while for prefetch to
restore after an installation. Try the above and, if there is no
improvement, post back
