I think I've tried everything to stop the Message Service
Popups - yet they keep coming. If there's something new
in the lst week or so that is causing this I would like
to know.
As Bruce stated, if Windows XP or better, turn on the connectiod's
firewall. If less then Windows XP, download the freebee version of
ZoneAlarm and install it. From
http://www.zonealarm.com/
Now, if you're using the AOL client then the firewalls are rendered
useless as AOL operate their own network over the Internet and their
dial-ups, but in theory you should not receive messenger service
pop-ups as I believe AOL block inbound parts 135, 139 and 445. I
think AOL also block inbound parts 110 and 25 to stop AOL customers
from operqating their own mail servers.
Yes, get a firewall running. Just turnong off the messenger service
does not cure anything.
Really, getting these messenger pop-up spam messages is doing you a
service. It's alerting you to the fact that your computer is wide
open to the Internet!
Enjoy!
