All the points that you raise are valid in Outlook Express
= apples
All the points that I raise are valid in the web
interface (CDO) = oranges
Apples and oranges are fruit, but they have nothing much
else in common, (OE cf CDO.)

Did you notice that line two, (_Jan), does not begin
with "Re: " ?
If you did notice, then you did not mention that you
were "confused" by the omission.
Have you also noticed that in some threads, the subject
line of the first reply does not begin with "Re: ", and
that in others, there are multiple instancesof "Re: "? If
you did notice, then you certainly did not inform those
posters.

In Outlook Express : YES
On the web interface : NO
Anybody posting their first reply to the original poster
must manually insert "Re:" at the beginning of the subject
line for that reply.

|>Please do not manually put "Re:" ...
| Or are you trying to confuse the people on the NG?
I manually insert "Re:" only if it is NOT already at the
beginning of the subject line.
On that occasion, I was unable to do so, because the
subject line was too long, which is what I wrote to David
and also to you.

I do not want:
- bandwidth-hungry attachments or RICH-TEXT-user-formatted
messages
- HTML-user-formatted messages containing malicious
scripts, or WebBugs which spy on people ("WebBugFAQ"
http://www.privacyfoundation.org/resources/webbug.asp )

No can do _Jan. Web based will not open "Post Reply"
or "New Post". Search did not turn up your last post
either. Had to look by page for it. A pain in the
keister. Switch to OE or another reader, much easier to
use. Also links that are posted show up as links that one
can click on, not cut and paste.
Anything taken out of context usually makes no sense.

"David, the point was that the "Re:" helps to identify
how the poster is reading the NG. It is not something
that has to be manually inserted for a response to a post
to be posted. The position in the list also shows that it
is a response to a previous post. It seems to me that
most who use the web reader find it very difficult to
return to where they were to see any response to a post."
(new) _Jan however can.

Well, if one does not read all the words that were
written, then perhaps one might be confused.

the subject line for that reply, probably because the
subject line was too long for the web interface.
of "Subject" line for this reply.
