Do you remember me?

I copied and pasted my original message, your answer and my subsequent
message pertaining to my problem as you asked me to get back to you once I
had finished running the scans etc.

Hello again

I'm back - finally. And have run everything except for the Ewido site, it
wouldn't work for me for some reason, tried it with IE and with Firefox.

I have re-installed WD again, so now, let me know what I should do please
Thank you
Monique

Hello Monique,

Can you go to Windows Update, do an Express scan, and apply all offered
updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Follow these steps, even though the original cause of the problem appears
not to apply.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915105

In general, if that KB (KB 915105) procedure fails with an error message,
the next thing to try is the Windows Installer cleanup tool:
Windows Installer cleanup tool: read the info carefully before using:

Hello Engel

Well, I tried to do the update - which was 1.14.1361.6 (KB915597)

And it said Updates were unable to be successfully installed.

I followed the other link you gave http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915105
and followed what it says in the resolution section, which was to go to run
and type in Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} and clicked OK
Then I opened WD and tried to apply the updates. BUT the updates will not
update at all.Nothing happens when I click on "check for update"

And your 3rd option is scaring the hell out of me. I think I'll just
uninstall WD completely and just use the other softwares I've been using
until this BETA version is done and over with. I do have XP and reading from
another post I did see that WD would be free to XP users, so I will wait for
that, even if it takes a year........lol...........rather than take a chance
in screwing up other programs.

Thanks for your help
Monique

Monique--give it some time.

When you press Check for Updates, it triggers an AutoUpdate request.

That should result in a balloon notification from the tray that updates are
being checked for. However, you may have balloon notifictions turned off.

The update process takes a few minutes, and has no visible progress signs,
except that, on completion, you should see updated information at the bottom
of the home screen in Windows Defender.

Hi Bill

You are probably right, maybe it does take some time, although it was the
same thing at other times when I did this and waited and waited and nothing
happened.

I have already uninstalled it and I've decided now to wait for the full
version to be available. I don't mind trying BETA version of programs, but
when I hit a wall, then I choose to wait it out :)

Thank you all for your help.
I will get the full version when it's available

Sorry you had a poor experience. I expect they'll get the quirks worked out
of the update process by release time.
