I keep getting a notice "setting message flags" when I Mark all of my
messages in Microsoft. Public windows. vista.general group. I cannot find
anything where I can turn it off. Please help

There is a bit that lives in the database for each message that indicates if
it has been read or not. This is called a "flag". Its very busy having to
set the bits for each message, so it gives you that little indication to let
you know you have to wait. Its there because the performance is very bad
for folders with lots of messages.

just telling you what it is doing. only shows because of the size of the news group.
that's why you do not see it in a smaller group.
