Can anyone tell me what they think of this deal? I just want a basic PC around the £500 mark to run office etc and maybe some mathematical software programs. Ideally just want something quick and reliable and not too bothered about the gaming front.

Is this a good deal? Will the Quad processor really benefit me as i heard that dual cores can be just as effective?

Thanks from a noob!!

Mesh are bad news.

Avoid them.

Seriously, stay away from Mesh.

Have a look at Novatech << link.

If you can't find anything there, ask again for other places.

I see Flops has beaten me to the punch!! :D

For your use a dual core would be more than adequate.

You say you want something 'quick and reliable'.......in which case I suggest you do some searching both here and around the net about Mesh before you commit yourself ;)

Like Novatech that Flops has recommended - Cube247 are good value and more importantly give great customer service :thumb:

The Arbico deal you've linked to is a fair system for the money.

Weak points:

Generic Power Supply, could be rubbish.
160Gb hard disk is small.
Memory is likely non name brand generic, may be good, may not be good.
19" Hannspree monitor is a cheapie.
Keyboard & mouse will likely be rubbish.
No loudspeakers

Other than that, fair price, especially as Vista Home Premium is included (you DO get a CD with complete OS on it don't you? Not just a recovery disk?)

But I have no idea what Arbico are like as a dealer, never heard of them.

scrap the bit about the novatech pc, i didnt realise you have to add bits on as you go and thought the price was all in!

Hmmmm, what forum was that? - just google 'Mesh problems' and other variants and you will see what we mean.

I have not heard of Arbico - but the spec seems OK - just remember its not just about price - customer service and getting help if things go wrong are just as important

I don't see a monitor included in the Novatech spec - so you will have to factor that in.

Edit: Flops beat me to the post again - but hopefully by reinforcing the points we can save you from future grief ;)

Power supply is a 500W standard PSU
I can upgrade to 250GB for £20
Memory is kingston 667Mhz PC5300 DDR2 Ram
I can get a 20" LG screen for an extra £34
I already have ok Keyboard and additional speakers from my outgoing pc.

So this would bring the price to about £555. With these adjustments do you think its a good deal?

Apart from the unknown brand PSU and the integrity of the supplier - yes :)

I cant find much info on the net about the supplier but they have a two year warranty and telephone support so i'm willing to give them a go. I can upgrade the power supply to a 700W PCI-E PSU for another £25 if you think this is worthwhile?!

I may even ring them tomorrow and say that its a toss up between that and the mesh and can they throw in the power supply upgrade for free to sway me!

A good quality 500W power supply is fine for you.

But there are PSU's on the market that aren't quite what they seem.

Just ask the supplier what make the PSU is. Good makes are: Enermax; OCZ; Corsair; Seasonic; Tagan; to name the most common quality ones.

A two year warranty is worthless if the company goes under, consider that and find out how long they've been trading if possible.

thanks, you've been loads of help. i'll ring them tomorrow, ask a few questions and see if i can strike a deal if it looks good and i'll update with how i'm getting on.

thanks again!

Quick update
I found another section on the arbico website where you get exactly the same spec except for a 250GB hard drive and an upgraded 1GB graphics card.

He said the standard 500W power supply will be corsair or another make that i think began with a V but i may be wrong.

So i think i may go for this deal with the LG 20inch screen upgrade which comes to £534

Well i ordered the arbico pc but they couldnt deliver it to my home address as my card was registered at another address.

So instead ive ordered the novatech 'entity' i think it was called and also purchased a 20" samsung monitor. Cost a little more than i was hoping for but oh well!

Just found this thread now a little late lol, but i think you will be glad you went with the novatech ;) As has already been said if you had got a mesh and it ran ok lucky you but if you had any problems you would be in for a nightmare ;)
