I am trying to make a backup of a an accompaniment CD.
The songs contain several tracks. When I try to copy a
song, the copy has a pause between the tracks. How do I
merge the tracks?

You need software that supports Disc-At-Once (DAO) recording, such as Nero 6.
There is also a Nero Fast Burning plug-in for WMP that may work as well.

I use Nero for burning music cd's and do quite a lot for
my wife, who is a choir director, and uses quite a few
different types of music cd's. No disrespect to Galley
but Disc-At-Once will only propagate the problem. You
need to use the new compilation method of creating a new
cd. This means you will have to individually select each
track and move it to the new compilation window. Then if
you right click on a track and select properties another
window will appear showing you track info. Click on the
tab that says "Track Properties". Look down on the page
and you will see an entry called, guess what?, PAUSE. I
think all programs automatically set this to 2 seconds.
Beginning with the second track set this value to 0
(zero) and for each track where you want to eliminate the
gaps. I think EazyCD Creator works the same way but not
sure. Hope this works for you. If not reply back to this
message.

Or you could use Feurio, which gives you even greater control over the gap
length or lack thereof. Feurio also smartly recognized the lack of gaps on live
recordings, and will rip those tracks as one large was file, leaving the track
markers intact. If you are serious about Audio CDs, then Feurio is the best on
the market. http://www.feurio.com/
One thing I don't like about Nero is that it doesn't look up the track names
until after you have selected them for ripping. WTF?

if Nero has fixed that situation with Disc-At-Once or not
but several years ago my wife asked me to make her a copy
of a CD (I used D-A-O), she then went to choir practice,
then came home and jumped all over me. When I asked her
what was wrong she said all of her music had gaps in it.
After researching I found 2 second gaps between each
track (each song spanned 2 or more tracks). Needless to
say I corrected the problem. Ever since I have used the
track by track method. Yeah, Nero is not the best but it
works most of the time. I'll check out feurio though.
