Merging multiple backgrounds

My home computer and laptop both run the latest version
of Office (incuding powerpoint). I have XP at home and
XP Professional on my laptop. I create presentations
with lyrics to multiple songs, with multiple backgrounds
(different for each song). I have each song saved as a
file with the correct background, and then cut and paste
to merge them for the presentation. On my home computer,
this works fine. On the new laptop, I lose my
backgrounds--it changes to the default. Ideas???

At work, go to Tools > Options > Edit and be sure that you haven't disabled
Multiple Masters. It is a setting at the bottom of that dialog. But,
instead of cutting and pasting, it would be better to use Insert > Slides
from Files. It gives you the option to "Keep source formatting".
