Hi there,
I'm in the process of prepping files (8 presentations)
for a day long webcast. Our client wants to retain the
numbering from the original files, but I need to merge
them into two large files for the stream. For instance 4
presentations in the morning stream and 4 presentations
in the afternoon stream. Since they are assembling
booklets, they want the numbering system in the stream to
match the booklets. Other than physically/manually
numbering each individual page I am hoping there might be
some other way.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Andy

Glenna,
Thanks... I've done this before for projections and
demos; and it works great. But not sure if it will work
for the web. My understanding is that the
files/individual slides are saved as jpegs and to my
knowledge jpegs do not "translate" links into executables.

If you choose File, Page Setup, you can set the starting slide number.

So if your first presentation has 20 slides, change the starting number for
presentation 2 to 21, and so on.

Does that do the job for you?

Thanks, that allows me to start at page x and number to
the end of the presentation not quite what I want to
accomplish.
Here's an example of what I am hoping to do.
The four merged files total 56 slides plus 4 title slides:
- title slide - Joe Firstpreznter
- has 20 slides
- title slide - Joe Cecunpreznter
- has 16 slides
- title slide - Joe Turdpreznter
- has 11 slides
- title slide - Joe Fortepreznter
- has 9 slides

I want each guy to have his own numbering. I was going to
try creating four masters in the merged file, but that
does not allow me to retain the original numbering
system .

I have no objection to doing it manually Was just hoping
for a short cut.

thanks

it's propietary software - PRNewswire...but it looks like
Producer. I have a call in to them.

It'd depend on how the files are getting converted for web use.
When PPT and several other apps convert PPT to HTML, they make JPGs, PNGs or
GIFs of the slides, but also preserve links using javascript, image maps or
some other technique. I'm partial to http://www.rdpslides.com/ppt2html/ but
then that's my job. I wrote it. <g>

Gotcha. I think it may have to be manual. If it were something you had to do
every other day, it'd be worth trying to automate it; if you only need to do
it occasionally, it's probably not worth the time to code a solution.

Thanks Glenna and Steve for helping out.

As it turns out the vendor that converts the files has
developed a slick and simple to use software package for
loading files to their server, preserving the ppt and
also converting it to jpegs (as I suspected). I will not
have to merge them into on large file because the
software allows them to be stacked against one and other
in the order that I would want them shown on the web. All
done seamlessly and it appears as one stream of
powerpoint images. And I can re-order them as changes
occur.

Again, thanks for your responses

Hello,

PowerPoint doesn't provide the functionality that you are looking for.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
PowerPoint provide this kind of functionality, don't forget to send your
feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Hey Andy,

Sorry to finally "get this" so late.

You could have also used my free PowerPoint add-in that does Page X of YY
numbering of the slides, then merged the presentations (without reactivating
the numbering). The actual slide number would have been different from the
labeled slide number, but that didn't sound like it was going to be an
issue.

If you need it in the future, check:
**Slide numbering - Slide XX of YY
