Merge Down

There is a Merge Across button -- and probably a Macro to go with it. I need a
Merge Down button to do the same thing; select a range and merge each column
from the top down. My rudimentary programming skills bar me from writing one
from scratch but I might be able to copy and adapt the Merge Across if I could
find it.

If you have such a macro would you kindly share it?

You can do this by selecting the cells and then:

format > cells > alignment > merge cells

If you need it in a macro, use the macro recorder.

Well, yes, but that means I have to select cells in one column at a time. This
can get tedious. The special Merge Rows button merges the rows selected but
there is no corresponding Merge Columns button or command.

VB, here I come . . .
