I have two separate hard disks in my computer and I was
wondering if I could set Windows XP Pro up to recognise
them as one. Can windows do it or 3rd party software?

Windows XP has the ability for some RAID features.
There are a few types of RAID. RAID 0 is disk-
mirroring.RAID 1 is Disk Striping. Disk Striping is a
method of writing a little bit of data to each hard drive
and is usually faster than writing to a single hard
drive. Usually, the hard drive is a bottleneck when
writing to disk. Adding a hard drive in a RAID 1
configuration should make you write to your hard drive
faster. In effect, you are making two hard drives act as
one. I have never done it so I don't know how easy it
is. I would think as long as you have two IDE cable
connectors and you are using dynamic disks Windows will
Stripe the disks. There are add-on cards that you can
purchase but I don't remember how much or which
configuration would have an impact on speed.

RAID 0 is disk striping and RAID 1 is disk mirroring. No matter which RAID you
choose, RAID is best done with at least 2 hard disks of the same size and speed,
as it will default to the smallest and slowest drive.
