menus flickering

From time to time, I have the problem that the start menu, application menus and tooltips will flicker when they are active. I have
two monitors, and this seems to occur only on the left monitor and when the computer has been left on for a few days.

system:
win XP pro
AMD Athlon XP 2100+
1.15 GB ram
Matrox G550 dualhead

Funny. I have been wondering about this for months, but the minute I post about it, I found out the culprit. Turns out that I have a
Java applet running in my browser and the problem goes away when I exit. Weird. I will update my JRE.
