menu fading in windows xp

I have exhausted every possible resource in stopping
windows xp from shading drop down menus. Its as if the
properties do not work. does anyone have any utility or
other known tweak to stop drop down menus from fading

Kevin,
Right click on the desktop and click on properties. Flip to the appearance
tab and click on "Effects". Uncheck "Use the following effects..."
