Hi

Has this happened to anyone else? The way my menu bar looks in IE6 has
completely changed. Instead of having two rows of menu options I just have
one chunky one with down arrows that I need to click to access further
options. For instance, I can't see the Favourites or Home Page icons anymore.
Also the task bar isn't visible either.

Can anyone help me get it back to the way it was? Or has a Microsoft update
done this?

Hi Jackie :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups.

If you have any 3rd party toolbars such as Google, MSN or Yahoo, disable
them. If you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it. If you have any 3rd party
software, popup or ad blockers, disable them.

Try the following and see if it helps:

Press F11, does your normal toolbars return? If not, continue:

Reset Internet Explorer's Toolbar Menu
http://toolbar.google.com/fixmenu
or.
Resolving problems with the IE toolbars being out of sync

Type this command in the RUN box, and press Enter:

Rundll32 Iedkcs32.dll,BrandCleanInstallStubs

The problem can also be caused by some forms of scumware on your system.
Work through the step in the following to fully clean your system:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be aware, your Anti-Virus won't detect all types of warez, Trojans, malware,
worms, etc., and neither can other adware or spyware related programs such
as AdAware and SpyBot. They don't have the proper definitions. They must
also be run in Safe Mode with Hidden Files enabled in order to fully scan
all files. Even if you have run such programs and nothing shows up, it does
not mean your system is clean. It takes a series of programs to fully clean
your machine. Some very aggressive and damaging variants of malware can
replicate themselves repeatedly, or mutate, if not removed properly.

Hi there

Thanks very much for your reply. Pressing F11 brought my menu bar back.
Pressing F11 repeatedly seems to alternate between my normal toolbar and the
'abnormal' toolbar. Does this give more of a clue as to what has gone wrong?

I think this happened after I installed Spyware Doctor (but I can't be sure).

Hi Jackie :-)

Thank you for the update information. Try uninstalling the Spyware Doctor
and see if your toolbar returnes to normal. Just as diagnostic test.

Did you try the other information I provided? Did any of it restore the
acutal toolbar? If not, did you get any error messages?

Hope this helps.

Hi Jackie :-)

Other thoughts on this....

Can you change the toolbar back to the one you want in the View>Toolbar and
then select the ones you want to have after pressing F11 and getting the
normal toolbar? Or is that not available? If you can select the ones you
want, try locking the toolbar afterward, then see what happens:

Lock Internet Explorer Toolbar Options in Place

or.... if you have the Google toolbar:
Go to http://toolbar.google.com/fixmenu and click on the "Reset IE's
Toolbar Menu" button.

also...

Reset the IE Toolbar layout using the method here:

Hi Rob :-)
Hi Jackie and Jan,

Just reading this thread and thought I would put in my contribution.
Jackie right click on your toolbar to display the drop-down menu or select
the View>Toolbars menu to choose the toolbars you want displayed. There is
an option in these menus to 'Lock the Toolbars' - You move your toolbars
around to where you want them by holding the right mouse button down while

Once you are satisfied with the positioning choose the Lock the Toolbars
menu option and close Internet Explorer to save your settings.

If you are using the MSN Search toolbar with tabbed browsing then the
toolbar layout will not stay the same if you use the tabbed browsing
feature.

Thank you for the additional information. Let's hope that the ability to
select the toolbars via the View>toolbars will allow the choices to stick,
even with the Lock as we have both suggested. But, if there is something
interfering then the change may not hold. I am hoping so, but, it may be
that whatever changed the setting in the first place may continue to disrupt
the normal toolbar selections until disabled.

Finger crossed. <g>

Hi there

Thanks very much for your reply. Pressing F11 brought my menu bar back.
Pressing F11 repeatedly seems to alternate between my normal toolbar and
the
'abnormal' toolbar. Does this give more of a clue as to what has gone
wrong?

I think this happened after I installed Spyware Doctor (but I can't be
sure).

Hi Jackie :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is
a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups.

If you have any 3rd party toolbars such as Google, MSN or Yahoo,
disable
them. If you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it. If you have any 3rd
party
software, popup or ad blockers, disable them.

Try the following and see if it helps:

Press F11, does your normal toolbars return? If not, continue:

Reset Internet Explorer's Toolbar Menu

Type this command in the RUN box, and press Enter:

Rundll32 Iedkcs32.dll,BrandCleanInstallStubs

The problem can also be caused by some forms of scumware on your
system.
Work through the step in the following to fully clean your system:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be aware, your Anti-Virus won't detect all types of warez, Trojans,
malware,
worms, etc., and neither can other adware or spyware related programs
such
as AdAware and SpyBot. They don't have the proper definitions. They
must
also be run in Safe Mode with Hidden Files enabled in order to fully
scan
all files. Even if you have run such programs and nothing shows up, it
does
not mean your system is clean. It takes a series of programs to fully
clean
your machine. Some very aggressive and damaging variants of malware can
replicate themselves repeatedly, or mutate, if not removed properly.

Hi

Has this happened to anyone else? The way my menu bar looks in IE6
has
completely changed. Instead of having two rows of menu options I just
have
one chunky one with down arrows that I need to click to access
further
options. For instance, I can't see the Favourites or Home Page icons
anymore.
Also the task bar isn't visible either.

Can anyone help me get it back to the way it was? Or has a Microsoft
update
done this?
