I just put some additional RAM into my system. When I go into systems this
information now reads: "physical memory 511.48, available memory 248.81".
What does this mean. Must I put some additional information into the system
so that it recognizes both as available?

Thanks.

this is totally normal. The "available memory" is what is not being used at
the time. So your physical memory is upgraded, that is good, the amount
available will vary depending on how much of it is tied up with tasks in
your computer.

hope this helps,
yasin

No, you shouldn't be looking for available memory. Available memory is the
mempry that isn't being used at the monent, and it changes throughout the
day as what you are doing changes.

In general, available memory should usually be little to nothing, because
Windows is designed to keep all your memory working as productively as
possible for you all the time. So if your apps don't need it, Windows uses
it, for example, for caching, then takes it back for your apps when they
need it again.

With 512MB, having 248MB available is very high. That's probably because you
are checking just after you boot. Later in the day, it shou;ld be much
closer to zero, as it should be.
