Yes, there are known compatibility problems between certain
mainboards/chipsets and certain memory modules/memory chips. You have to be
careful buying RAM, especially if it is not a good name-brand of RAM.

Now, I would hope that the shop you bought it from would be willing to
exchange the RAM or offer you a refund of your money, as the RAM you have
won't work with your mainboard.

If you still need RAM, try Kingston or OCZ brand RAM. While not being
universally compatible (I wonder if there is such a thing . . . probably
not), I haven't yet seen a mainboard or chipset that isn't happy with RAM
made by Kingston or OCZ. -Dave

what will happen if i put the incompatible memory in my system, will it blow
the mobo?

No, it will either fail to POST at worst, or be unstable in use. If
POSTs, run a good memory tester. Try Microsoft memory tester.

I've never tried OCZ, but I tested around seven Kingston 512MB PC3200
ValueRAM modules from circuit city, and at the BIOS defaults, half
wouldn't pass MemTest86 in an Asus/Asrock VIA VT400A mobo at 400 MHz
memory bus speed, none passed in an ECS nForce3A v. 1.0A Socket 754
mobo.

With the Asrock I had to enable the "flexibility option" (whatever that
is) to get zero errors, and with the ECS I had to use the 2T setting.
OTOH I have an older Kingston that works fine with these mobos at 1T
and even CAS 2.5, as do all my PNY PC3200 modules ("Bravo" chips).

This isn't the first time I've had problems with Kingston. That module
that worked at 1T was the second one I got, and earlier I had a very
high failure rate with 256MB PC2100 modules.

I don't mind 2T speed because it makes barely a difference, but if the
modules couldn't handle 1T, they should have been programmed for 2T.

It won't harm any hardware. At worst the computer will fail to boot or
will lock up quickly or frequently, and one time a PC2100 mobo with
integrated graphics showed white vertical bars that slowly grew if I
used PC3200 memory with the BIOS set to the safe defaults (regular and
optimized defaults were OK).

Whatever memory you use, run either MemTest86 (www.memtest86.com) or
MemTest86+ (www.memtest.org) AND Gold Memory (www.goldmemory.cz) on it
for several hours each, preferrably overnight, because lots of the RAM
I've bought has had bad bits, and they may not appear for hours.

So helpful. Next time, please move on to a post where you can be

ok shit for brains, what was not helpful?
1) the obvious was stated - the OP is an idiot
2) google is over there-----> which is your friend to find out information
and correct this state of idiocy.

you must be of the mindset that spoon feeding information is the only way.
a person will remember better if they find out for themselves instead of
taking the word of some technofuckwit such as yourself.

The phrase "shit for brains."
1) the obvious was stated - the OP is an idiot

Why, because he asked a question.

If you were born with a masters in Computer Sciences, I apologize. If not,
I am guessing you may have asked a few questions in your 12 years on this
planet.

If you are so bloody all knowing, why would you need google? Head you way
over to ask.com and search "why am I so angry?"

I am in the mindset of guiding people in the right direction, not trying to
make them feel bad due to the fact of I have an undiagnosed social disorder
which does not allow me to function normally with others.

I am very impressed with PATRIOT RAM. I bought a gigabyte of Patriot
"Extreme Performance" DDR 400 RAM, and am completely satisfied with the
performance.
