I just put in 256mb sdram into the computer from
Crucial.com. The computer starts up fine, but when I take
out the original 128mb ram that came with the computer,
the computer won't boot up. It just makes these beeping
noises. The system starts up, the hard drive starts and
monitor turns on and it seems as if it is working fine,
but nothing turns on and the system does not boot.

My Pavilion XT963 runs fine with both the 256 and 128
combined, but I cannot have 512 together cause it won't
boot up without the original 128mb that came with the
computer.

No matter what type (manufacturer)of ram I use, I can't
run it without the original 128mb of ram that came with
the computer. Could somebody please help me out with this
problem?

Does your computer show 384mb of ram with both sticks installed? Sounds like
you got the wrong type ram to add.

With the 128 and 256 installed, my system shows I have 192
initial size, with 384 maximum size. Only the 128 stick
is detected on my system, although it runs like it has
384. If I take out the 128, the computer just beeps and
won't start up.

What is your Compag model number and what is the Crucial part number
for the memory that you purchased?

If both ram sticks are not the same not megabyte size but
type (such as installing pc133 and pc2100) you will have
problems, try removing the original ram stick and
installing the new one "in the same slot the original was
in" some computers favor one ram slot over another.
Crucial is pretty good at sending the right type of ram
however if their were more than one type for your
computer you may have selected the wrong one. or perhaps
you have a faulty stick or slot
