I recently added memory. I have four slots. The computer came with a pair of 128 mb. I added a pair of 256 mb. I know that they are physically installed properly. I cannot get the computer to recognize the upgrade. I am running windows XP, my system is microsoft with an intel processor. Any suggestions?

You have a problem that can only be answered by the folks that made the
motherboard. Ask them.

I copied this from another group, hoping Bruce won't mind. I'm guessing you
may have added to much memory. perhaps 128 MB sticks.

Greetings --

If you cannot lay your hands upon the PC's manuals and the PC's
manufacturer doesn't provide a support web site:

SiSoft's Sandra
http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.php?dir=&location=sware_dl&lang=en

Belarc Advisor
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Unlimited Possibilities' AIDA32
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32

Also, Crucial Memory's web site (www.crucial.com) has a database
to help to find the right RAM for your specific make and model PC.

Put the new 256 RAM in slot 0 and 1, move the 128's to 3 and
4...

Make sure that the new 256 is the same specs as the old 128
(except size of course). Have you tried just the 256 RAM?

Run AIDA32 http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php to see the
detailed specs on your system [mobo,RAM, etc.]
Check with www.crucial.com by computer model or mobo for the
memory type you need and what is supported by your system.

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module be compatible
with both the motherboard and any other RAM module(s) in the system.
Additionally, there are sometimes jumper switches on older
motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM configuration.
Consult your motherboard's manual.
