After installing the new module the PC won't boot. No initial video
screen, no CMOS setup, no error beeps, nothing! I removed both modules
and installed only the new one. Same thing. Remove the new module and
installed the old module and the system runs fine.

Mainboard: FIC AU-13
CPU: AMD Duron 1.3 Ghz
Old Module: PC-2100 DDR 128MB SDRAM (single sided)
New Module: PC-2100 DDR 256MB SDRAM (double sided + ECC chip)

The shop I bought the memory from insists that it is good.

Thanks in advance.

I would be skeptical of ECC memory on that board.
FIC calls for non-ECC RTFM

http://www.fic.com.tw/support/motherboard/motherboard.aspx?model_id=118.

Apparently your motherboard is not compatible with an ECC type RAM stick.
Only certain motherboards can use them.

BTW, I did R.T.F.M. The printed manual I have is a piece of crap
re-written by Chinese who don't know how to translate english. A very
ambiguous document.

They understand enough to build your motherboard.

Maybe, or maybe someone else was contracted to make them for
FIC. Either way, if FIC's budget can't cover even a decent
translation for a large market (English being quite common
on this planet), one has to wonder how else their limited
budget effected the product.
