I have Compaq Presario 7000 computer with 256 MB memory. Memory type
is pc2100 DDR 266 mgz. Computer has two slots with 128mb memory stick
in each slot!
Recently i noticed, while computer was fully running with all
applications, systen resources shown was 40 to 50% free! That means
50% to 60% of 256mb was being used up by the computer while running.
I decided to upgrade memory. Bought 512mb pc2100 ddr 266 mgz memory.
Removed one 128MB memory and replaced it with 512 mb. This
effectively gave 640mb total memory (128mb old + 512mb new). While
righlt clicking on "My computer", it does show 640MB RAM. (It used to
show 256MB RAM before upgrading). So far so good!
Now the problem.. upon performance checking on the memory, it still
shows 40% to 50% available resorces! Just like priory to upgrading!
i was hoping it will show at least 75% free resources after upgrading
to 640mb.
What happened? Although total memory is upped by 384mb, free resouces
did not go up! Could anyone explain what is wrong here? incidentally,
bracd name of old 128 MB memory was Samsung and new 512 MB was PNY.
Thanks.
