Well I 've nearly finished me pc , yeah yeah I know its taken a long time

an its probably obsolete by now . Never mind I'm stuck with it for a while so I'l just have to live with it :)

You can see the specs for it in me sig line .

I see that it seems like memory prices are cheap at the moment so I wondered if it was worth upgrading me memory .

I've got at present some Crucial sticks , see below ,

DIMM1: Micron Tech. 16VDDT6464AG-265B1 512MB
@ 133 MHz 2.5-3-3-6 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)

DIMM2: Micron Tech. 8VDDT3264AG-265B1 256MB
@ 133 MHz 2.5-3-3-6 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)

DIMM3: Micron Tech. 16VDDT3264AG-265A1 256MB
@ 133 MHz 2.5-3-3-6 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)

Now I want to do a lot of video and camera picture stuff and some games playing . So could you all sugest some memory uprade for me . I'm a little confused by it all but I think that if I increased my memory to say 1GB or 2Gb and up to DDR 400 the I might cut down the time needed for video work .
I could spend up to £150 but would like to spend a lot less

Heres a bit of info from me mobo manual if it helps ,

It may seem ok for a while but once you start installin other programs and what not you will notice it

Your board is DDR up to 400, 1 gig max per slot. As you already have a gig i'd go for 2x 1 gig sticks, as it would be a waste of cash if you just bought anything less. But in all honesty, i don't know if it would be worth it with that spec.

Have a look at this...

:)

Thanks V_R . reason I need help is I bought 2GB of ram when I started buying bits for me build , trouble is they won't work in this mobo , work in other mobos but not mine ha ha .

Everset tells me me ram is "unbuffered" and "Error Detection Method -none" So I'm guessing if I want to add 2GB of ram to mine I'd need NON ECC .

The link you gave shows three 1Gb modules at the top of the list the top one recomended by Crucial but its ECC so I'm guessing it won't match with my ram .

The next two listed are NON ECC so I'm guessing they will match . However they are,

DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64

DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 128Meg x 64

I'm confused by Crucials list as I would assume that the PC3200 would be a tad faster than the PC2700 yet its listed above the PC3200 suggesting that its slightly faster than the PC 3200. As the list is not sorted by price I'm assuming that it is sorted by speed .

Thanks for the help .

The Crucial list is not in speed order - it just shows what is compatible with your system.

It doesn't matter whether you have EEC or non-EEC to be honest - Everest is just saying what the current installed modules are - but what you can't do is mix both together.

Go for 2 x 1GB of these and you'll be fine :thumb:

What did you buy before that didn't work?

Well the muds settling and things are just a tad clearer now . Thanks Adywebb . Bought 2 x 1 GB PC 3200 NCP modules of e-bay from USA price was right cheap they matched the chipset on the board so they should have worked . They worked fine in two other boards I tried them in but not in my board or me sisters board , one ASUS one MSI both with AMD 64 cpu's . guess its the cpu's that they don't work with . Who knows , they don't work on my set up and its very annoying .
Looking at your recomendation its looks like that should speed up me pc noticably for video editing type stuff . :D

Different motherboards and chipsets can be quite picky about certain types of RAM - especially cheap generic stuff.

Personally its a false economy buying cheap generic branded RAM, always stick to quality RAM for quality performance :thumb:

If only I'd known that before I bought

Ok one last question . Would it be worth it for me to get this,

Corsair (TWINX2048-3200C2PT) 2GB (2 x 1GB Matched Pair) DDR PC3200 2x128Mx64 non-ECC 2x184 DIMM unbuffered 2-3-3-6 64Mx8 DRAMs Matched Pair Silver Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty at around £160

or this for £90 for 2 Gb,

CT12864Z40B

CRUCIAL 1GB DDR PC3200 400MHz 184-PIN UNBUFF 128MX64 Memory Modules

Would the extra £70 show a decent speed increase or would I be better of saving the £70and putting it towards me next project .

Thanks for the help guys and galls .

You mean this right? thats what i got , good stuff.

Not really worth spending the extra unless you wanted to overclock.

If you intend to run at stock speed go for the Crucial, you'll see no improvement in spending the extra money (unless, as I said, you intend to overclock).

Thanks guys . I don't think I could cope with overclocking for now so I think I'll go for the Crucial .
Blimey its been a rough ride this pc building lark . Still its beeen good fun and hopefully I'll be able to put all this info to some use .
Now where did I put that Laura Croft game .................
