Hello,

I just built a new computer with a motherboard/processor (P5GDC-V
Deluxe, Intell 530J) and memory (Dana 2 * 512 Mb PC3200).

The memory check program Memtest86 v 1.20 gave the following
information about the memory:
FSB 200MHz, Type DDR-I
Settings RAM 200Mhz (DDR400)
CAS 3-4-4-8 /Dual Channel (Interleaved)

I am a little bit dissapointed in the CAS-settings of the memory
sticks.

Can somebody tell me what the computerspeed effect will be after i
replace the memory with CAS of 2,5-3-3-8 memory?

Also is it normal that the FSB indicates 200MHz (I thought that the
FSB speed had to be 400MHz).

Note. All the BIOS settings for the CPU and Memory are defaulted (to
automatic).

I hope somebody can tell me if it is smart to change the memory and
also if different BIOS settings are needed (without trying to
overclock the system).

regards,

Butch

The FSB of the computer is correctly 200 MHz.
The speed of the Double Data Rate (DDR) RAM is
2 x 200MHz= 400Mhz. Correct.

This article compares the different CAS values:

Thanksfor the response Dave

Lateron i noticed that in the BIOS the FSB was indicated as 800MHz.
So i'am still missing a factor of two!

The front side bus (FSB) is "quad pumped" on a P4.
That means, four transfers happen per clock cycle.
200MHz x 4 = FSB800.

If the same clock is used for DDR memory, then
the clock number is doubled. 200MHz x 2 = DDR400.

Thanks Paul.

800 sounds much better than 200 (:-)

It's all confusing
