Memory Speed Question

Please forgive me -- this is not a pc-homebuilt question, but you folks
have very knowledgeably helped me before. This one should be easy.

I have an old laptop that I am preparing to donate to a charity. I would
like to increase the memory first though. The specs say that I need a
144 pin 3.3v SDRAM So-DIMM PC100. I have located a same spec. module at
Newegg, except that it is a PC133. I assume that this is the memory speed,
and my guess is that this faster module would simply default back down to
100 Mhz and would work O.K. Can someone please tell me whether I am
correct?

The bottom line, the 133 from Newegg is $23. The 100 from Fujitsu is $260.

Thank you very much for your thoughts and/or advice,
David

Check out an memory configurator such as Crucial's at:
http://www.crucial.com/index.asp. It will help guarantee
compatibility.

Really depends on the motherboard thats inside the laptop. I have
never ran into a problem mixing the two speeds.. But you should also
check ebay. Memory prices for pc100 memory is pretty cheap there.

Thank you very much, KC and BB,

BB: Thank you for the eBay hint. I will investigate that next time!
Unfortunately, this time, because of a very tight schedule, I have to be
absolutely certain the first time.

KC: Thank you for the Crucial link! It gave me that needed certainty, and
I have already placed the order. I didn't even know that something like
that existed.

You guys are great!
David
