Memory strips have EEproms that manufacture burns with required voltage,
speed, settings, etc. If your mem strips are not same type or even matched
set, be sure to disable the memory auto configure sometimes called [by
SPD]disable by [set manually] and manually set your CAS delays, and other
mem timing parameter in BIOS. BIOS may read the first mem strip and use
same settings for all sockets, or read both and set lowest common
denominator. Gets complicated....that's why best to use same type,
manufacturer and even matched set....or throw away 256MB and replace with
single 512MB.

Be sure to run memtest86 (find with Google)
I had a bad (new) 256MB strip.
Also it will let you know when you have your BIOS settings tuned-up.
I have mixed types before but needed memtest86 to set BIOS .......using
trial and error method.
Good luck.

Are you having problems? What are your problems?

I take it you've tried the double sided in a bank on it's own?

If I use one stick I don't get the 128 bit speed advantage.

Don't seem to have any problems yet, and ran the memtest86 for 2 hours
without an error. I think all is ok.
