Memory Question

I was hoping someone could clear something up for me.

I was going to put together a system with a Barton 2500+ and an Abit NF7-S.
I was going to use Either Corsair or Crucial memory.

I've read that latency isn't as important as speed when overclocking. I'm
planning to get PC-3200, but if I can get that at CL3 instead of CL2 or 2.5
and save some money, I'd like to do that.

Will I be able to increase the bus speed to 200 or more with the higher
latency memory? Or should I definately go with CL2?

Thanks.

In general, if you want higher bus speed, you want to buy LOW CL RAM and
then turn the CL up. In other words, CL2 at CL3 settings will probably
allow you to turn your bus speeds up higher than CL2.5 at CL3 settings.
However, PC3200 RAM should do 200MHz at default settings, as it is DDR400 by
definition. So CL rate shouldn't matter at all. I think your processor is
a 333FSB processor, so THAT will probably crap out on you long before your
PC3200 memory will. In other words, PC3200 RAM will be stable at 200 (400),
but your processor might not be. Still, if you intend to overclock the
processor, PC3200 RAM (regardless of CL) would be a good bet. -Dave

My own experiences have shown that a lower CAS level "feels" faster
than a higher bus speed.
