Memory problem?

Greetings,

I have installed a new motherboard in my system and got an odd CRC
failure from the Windows installer when doing a repair install. Some
help I got from this NG suggested my CPU was the problem, but replacing
the CPU didn't help.

Today I suddenly noticed that the BIOS memory test reports memory size
as 229,376 K. I have a single 256MB memory module, so shouldn't it be
262,144 K?

I'm assuming this indicates that the memory module is bad. This is a
standard Viking 32x64PC2100 DDR module.

Appreciate any help.
Thanks ahead,

If your system has an on-board video card, then the video card is using a
part of the system memory for video memory.

Have you tested your memory?

You're right, I missed that. There is build in video, I've verified that
accounts for the difference.

If the BIOS memory test doesn't indicate any other memory problem, can I
assume that the memory is OK?

That would leave only the motherboard as the cause of this problem since
the CPU has already been replaced and there are no other components
except the disks and the CD drive (no PCI or AGP cards).

Many sticks of RAM I have tested that appeared good would not function
correctly. That is why repair guys have so many sticks of RAM laying around.
Nothing beats substitution!

Maybe the 32,768 is for Video.
