Hi,

I had a problem today with Vista not starting due to a corrupt file that was stopping it from booting up. So I ran Vista cd and fixed it, then I decided to run Windows Memory Test that’s built into Vista and that said that there is a problem with my computers memory, however I ran Memtest 86+ for 1hour and 30mins and that found no errors at all, does this mean that there could be a problem with my memory or not?

Would be grateful for any advice,

Thanks,

Wiz

Hi,

Vista seems fine at the moment starting up, I have just ran Windows Memory test again and that said that there was no erros found? So does this mean that it could have been a one off?

Well perhaps there was and it might come back and affect your computer but like I said for now no problems so don't let it worry you too much.

Hope you can sleep at tonight. :p

Good morining all,

Today I have found out that BOINC and KingKong that I installed yesterday have dissappered and are no where to be found, if I insert the Kingkong CD it asks me to install it again and this is the same with BONIC, Tomb Raider? Does this sound like a hard drive problem or memory? Shall I start testing both Hard Drive and memory again and see if it finds any errors?

Please see attached picture of Test report.

Would be grateful for any advice,

Thanks,

Wiz

Been testing hard drive and memory through out the day and they have come back with no faults? The thing that I can't work out is how things are dissappering ? I have done AV and spyware scan aswell and that did not find anyhting.

Thanks,

Wiz

I wouldn't worry about the memory errors - if memtest came back negative then the Windows internal test could have been a glitch. ;)

If you get bluescreens or random crashes then try again, but I wouldn't worry at the moment.

Ok Thanks Ian, I am still not sure about why the programs disappeared from the hard drive? I will install them again and see what happens. Have you ever come accros this problem before of files disappearing?

Thanks,

Wiz

Just to let you know that the hard drive Test came back fine aswell so I am now reinstaliing all the programs that have gone and I will see if they stay on this time.

Edit also each time I exit Tomb Raider - Anniversary I get Windows Media Centre come up for now reason any ideas?

result there then :)

Yeah at least I know there is nothing wrong with the hardware :)

Just one thing though I keep getting Windows Media Centre coming up I take it the best way to stop is to disable it?

Thanks,

Wiz

Fixed

Fixed,

I found out it to be a problem with King Kong and Vista 64bit what a surprise,

that was causing the computer not to boot up and wiped some of the games from the pc.

So I decided to reinstall 32bit Vista instead and all seems well at the moment with games. :)

Thanks,

Wiz
