have an asus a7n8x-x mb with amd athlon 2500 cpu. was running with 3x512 mem
tried to upgrade to 3x 1gig. running vista home basic it will not boot with
anything over 2 gig total. anyone with any ideas (other than a new system)?

You don't give enough details about your memory. Is it pc6400? What is it?
What are the latencies?

What happens with only 1 ram module installed? Two? Swapping out pairs?

If you are running pc6400 try reducing the dram speed to 6700.

tried updating bios with no luck. the memory is ddr pc 3200 which is
compatible with the mb (checked with asus site b4 i bought it). have swapped
singly, in pairs, and all three in every combination. As stated in original,
it will recognize any combination of memory as long as it does not exceed 2
gig. Once it does, vista will not boot: this does not happen if i boot with
XP. It will recognize all three gig. thank you for your posts and future
suggestions...

I could not find an "a7n8x-x" mobo on Asus, but the spec sheet for an
a7n8x-vm on Asus states that only 2GB of memory is supported.

That may be, but remember I said I could not find the mobo you listed so I
checked the closest name I could find.
