Microsoft is confusing memory and hard drive space together:

Memory: You need at least 2 gigabytes (GB) of free memory space on your hard
disk.
To check your free memory space, click Start, click My Computer, and
right-click Local Disk (C:) or the name of the drive you are installing SP2
on, and then click Properties.

This shows Microsfot's outsourcing is paying off.

You are the one who is doing the confusing. Memory refers to the RAM of
the machine, maybe 512MB, as reinforced through virtual memory by
overflow to hard disk. Microsoft
