I bought an ASUS fully intergrated motherboard and placed a stick of 512mb
memory. The system has Windows XP professional with SP2 and all the updates,
but the memory was only reading 490mb instead of 512mb. I didn't flash the
BIOS for the motherboard due to the fact it was new out of the box. Which I
understand doesn't really mean anything either. Why would the memory be so
far off and what can I do to correct it.

Thanks

Are you using the motherboards on-board video?

I don't think it would be the video.
He is missing 22 mb. That's an odd number and low number for video mem on a
new mb.

"The memory was only reading 490MB." And WHERE did you see that value?
Did you look in BIOS or check the status screen after the POST to see
what the *BIOS* reports for memory size?
