Memory Not Releasing

I have a 60 gig hard drive, 256 on the board. I just
installed XP because I was told it handles memory better,
and it does. I was just working in MSWord and I could
not save my letter because the hard disk was full. I had
to copy the text and save it to email, reboot and copy
back to Word.

Why is my computer, software or hardware, not releasing
the memory it uses to while I compute?

If you hard drive is getting full, you can use Disk Cleanup to reclaim some
space (Start \ Programs \ Accessories \ System Tools \ Disk Cleanup)
