This is a new problem that has come up -- I frequently
(several times daily) need to reboot my computer to
maintain performance. Over a period of a couple hours,
applications will hang and I need to reboot. In Task
Manager, I notice that the PF Usage and Commit Charge
monitors just show a gradual increase, when they top out,
I need to reboot. This happens even if there are no open
programs and the computer is just sitting idle. I have
had a real problem recently with pop-ups/adware, and
wonder if there is something that is sucking up the
memory? I have Spybot, Macafee antivirus, have disk
cleaned and defragged, and it persists. Thoughts? TIA,
Jim

I don't use just one spyware program and maybe you
should try others .
Window Memory Diagnostic tests are designed to
identify the following types of memory errors:

An error that occurs when a memory address fails to
retain its assigned value
An error called a coupling fault, which occurs when a
memory address is altered by writes to other addresses on
the same memory device

1: Microprocessor cache

2: Memory module

thanks for the advice--I ran the memory tool and no faults
were found. I have downloaded and updated and run
spybot, spyware blaster and cleaner 4.1, all of which find
things but no change after removal of stuff. Do these
symptoms suggest any particular cause? Thanks, Jim

Jim, how big is your hard drive ?
Do you have extra partitions on it?

It sounds like you are running out of room

One additional spyware tool to try is CoolWebShredder. Get it from

Good luck
