memory leak

We're running Win 2000 Pro, and recently we have been
suffering memory leak or shortage problems.

These are the error message we're getting:
"Insufficient resources to open a new program."
"Insufficient resources to complete this operation."

One of our suspicions is that it could be one of our
Norton utilities, perhaps the Virus Antivirus. Another
thought is that it could be a distributed computing
program we recently installed (and uninstalled due to the
fact that it appeared to slow our computer). The third
possibility is that we recently installed something
called "CloudMark SpamNet" to combat spam -- it works
great, but was installed aroudn the time these problems
began.

In terms of fixing the problem, my first thought is,
surely somone has come up with a simple shareware to run
in the background that will monitor programs that are
using memory resources inefficiently. Several web
searches failed to find any such thing available for the
home computer user.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John Bonitz

A simple tool is the Windows Task Manager.
right-click your taskbar, select Task Manager...
Go to the Processes Tab and you find all processes an their
Memory Usage.
Can sort the list on any column by clicking it's header.
You can add valuable columns: selcet the meny View>Select
Columns...
Add columnms Hande Count and Thread Count.
Make note of the Task Manager readings at some point in time,
and have a look again after an hour, a day or what ever and look
for processes that seems to have increasing Memory, Handle and
or Thread counts.
